GENERAL INFORMATION
Eilat is the jewel of the Red Sea, blessed with everything that makes a perfect holiday, and situated amongst the breathtaking scenery of the deep azure sea and the Edom Mountains.
A resort town and bustling port on the edge of the desert, Eilat lies at the southernmost tip of Israel. It has a perfect climate where the sun always shines. It almost never rains, a mere half a dozen days a year. Average daytime temperatures rarely fall below 21C (70 F). The Red Sea ‘s clear blue water is enticingly warm even in mid-winter when the average daytime water temperature stays above 68F (20 C).
Eilat is an ideal family holiday: Some hotels have a kids club which provides supervised activities to keep kids occupied, and at the same time allows parents to relax.
SHOPPING
Eilat offers VAT free shopping. There are shops in and around the main hotels selling jewellery, swimwear, and souvenirs.
BEACHES
Most are free and have a club like atmosphere, with thatched roof restaurants and lively pubs, beach chairs, and music and dancing day and night.
FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT
Eilat offers dozens of restaurants throughout its length and breadth, in the tourist centre, on the beach, in the industrial centre, or in the numerous hotels. Eilat has a big variety of nightlife including pubs, discos, and clubs. In almost every hotel there is nightly entertainment.
SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Eilat is a paradise for water sports fans that enjoy diving, water skiing, swimming and boating. It has excellent diving clubs, and the clear water of the Red Sea makes it one of the best locations in the world for diving and snorkelling. Action fun is not restricted to water sports, as there is tennis, squash, volleyball, and most hotels have well equipped gyms. Also the calm surface of the sea is ideal for boating activities such as pedal boats, rowing boats, kayaks, and self-drive motorboats.
SIGHTSEEING
Attractions include Coral World Underwater Observatory, Dolphin Reef (swimming and diving with the dolphins), Solomon’s Pillars, Timna Valley, Yellow Submarine, desert safaris and camel tours. Eilat is a birdwatchers paradise and has an annual International Bird Watchers Festival in March.
