GENERAL INFORMATION
Haifa, Israel’s third largest city and northern capital, is a major port and an important centre of industry and commerce. Situated in a broad natural bay between the beautiful Mediterranean Sea and the inspiring Carmel Mountain, the city’s terraced landscape offers a rich variety of breathtaking panoramas.
The city is divided into four major areas. : The lower city area where the port is situated. The bay area where the industrial area is situated. Hadar Hacarmel area, which is the commercial centre. Mount Carmel area, which are the city’s entertainment, cultural and tourist centres.
SHOPPING
There are shopping malls and shopping centres mainly in the Hadar Hacarmel area.
BEACHES
Haifa has a beach area in the lower city part of town.
FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT
Haifa has an active nightlife including cinemas, bars, discos, and clubs. Restaurants are plentiful offering various international cuisine.
SIGHTSEEING
Haifa has a shrine and a few institutions important to the Baha’i faith, and is a centre for the Baha’i religion. The monumental Baha’i terraces, which descend Mt Carmel, is a remarkable sight. Haifa University is also worth visiting. The 27-storied university tower stands on one of the peaks of Carmel.
